Terrorism And Insurgency: France, IOM Launch Project for IDPs in Nigeria

The Embassy of France in Nigeria and International Organisation for Migration (IOM) has launched a project aimed at strengthening access to justice services for people displaced by the Boko Haram conflict living in camps and host communities in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Nigeria Receives Another 650 IDPs from Cameroon, Over 800 Evacuated To Borno

Nigeria's National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) on Wednesday disclosed in Fufore, Adamawa State, that it had received another 650 Nigerians sent back home from Cameroun Republic.

Security Alert! 22 Boko Haram Members Discovered Amongst IDPs Deported From Cameroon


The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has discovered 22 Boko Haram members among Nigerians deported from Cameroon who were put at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Mubi, Adamawa.

Boko Haram: Fresh 40,000 People Displaced In Lake Chad Area - UN official

The United Nations has reported further population displacement in the Lake Chad region owing to fear of attacks by Boko Haram and appeals by the Government of Chad for civilians to leave areas where ongoing military operations are being undertaken against the group.

Boko Haram: Cameroon Repatriates 12,000 Nigerian Refugees

ABUJA (Reuters) - About 12,000 Nigerians are being repatriated over the next three to four days after seeking refuge in Cameroon from attacks by Islamist militant group Boko Haram, Nigeria's state emergency agency said on Wednesday.

Boko Haram: Advocating A Better Deal For Internally Displaced Persons, Victims of Insurgency, Terrorism in Nigeria



Introduction
Although there is no strict legal definition as there is for a refugee but the  United Nations Report - Guiding Principles on Internal Displacement defines an Internally displaced people/persons (also referred to as DPRE in many civil and military parlance) as people or groups of people who have been forced or obliged to escape or to leave their homes or places of habitual residence, in particular as a result of or in order to avoid the effects of armed conflict, situations of generalized violence, violations of human rights or natural or human-made disasters, and who have not crossed an internationally recognized State border.

Boko Haram Controls 20 Out Of 27 Local Councils In Borno State

The Borno State government painted a graphic picture of Boko Haram terrorism in the state when it says that the sect has seized control of 20 of the 27 local government areas of the state over the last five years.
