Charlie Hebdo Shooting: Homegrown, 'Lone Wolf' Terrorism Raises Security Concerns In Europe

European nations are tightening security at borders and vulnerable areas this week after purported Islamic extremists carried out a shooting Wednesday that left 12 people dead outside French satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo’s headquarters in Paris. Leaders stressed the enhanced measures were precautionary attempts at due diligence, given the fact that two of three suspects in the attack remained at large Thursday.

Jordanian Pilot Captured by Islamic State After Warplane Crashes in Syria

Islamic State militants captured a Jordanian pilot after his plane went down during operations by the U.S.-led coalition against the group on Wednesday in northeastern Syria, Jordan’s military said. The Raqqa Media Center, which is sanctioned by Islamic State, claimed the group shot the plane down with antiaircraft guns and the pilot ejected near the city of Raqqa—the capital of a province by the same name that is the seat of Islamic State’s self-proclaimed caliphate.
