Boko Haram: Nigerian Air Force Commences Bombardment of Sambisa Forest

Barely Forty-eight hours after President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Military High Command to ensure the end of Boko Haram in the next three months, Nigerian Airforce fighter jets recently deployed to the North East, have commenced air bombardments of Sambisa forest to decapitate the remaining terrorist’s camps and bunkers of the group.

Updated: 50 People Killed, Dozens Injured By Bomb Blast At Sabon Gari Market, Borno

At least 47 people were killed on Tuesday when an explosion occurred at the cow section of Sabon Gari market in Damboa local government area of Borno state. A source told TheCable that the incident occurred around 1pm. “It was a bloody attack by a female suicide bomber and apart from the over 40 people who were killed, many sustained injuries,” he said. “I don’t know the number of those injured but rescue workers have taken over the market.” Umar Kidda, a member of a civilian viligante group, told Reuters that more than “47 dead persons have been removed from the market”. Kidda, who was said to have witnessed bodies being taken away, said the market was busy when the explosion occurred. A military source who declined to be named, also told the news agency that around 50 people had been killed. There has hardly been any week that the insurgents have not struck since May 29 when Muhammadu Buhari was sworn in as president. The relocation of the military command centre to the north-east is yet to have the desired result, as over 600 people have been killed since the decision was taken.

30 Shop Owners Arrested for Sponsoring Boko Haram in Borno State

Reports available to DAILY POST in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state reveals that the Nigerian military had during a raid recently at Benishiekh and Mainok towns of Kaga local government area of the troubled northeast state of Borno, arrested 30 shop owners over their close contact and sponsorship of the dreaded Islamic sect, Boko Haram.

A security source who pleaded anonymous because he was not authorized to speak told DAILY POST on Sunday that the suspects were helping the security with vital information including names of prominent personalities.

“There are going to be surprises if President Buhai is going to act on information at the disposal of security agencies. The rumour making the rounds about names of personalities involved in Boko Haram activities and sponsorship is going to shock many Nigerians.

” the arrests at Benishiekh last week when we raided the town is already giving signal to the fact that, prominent people are involved with Boko Haram. These shop owners are the suppliers of food items, money, fuel and other needs of the Boko Haram fighters. They also revealed how they attack Benishiekh town to deceive people.” Our source said.

Ask to give some of the names of the arrested persons he said, ” I do not have their names, I am not in position to give their names. We are soldiers and our duty is to make sure we do what we are asked to do. We raided the area in a mop up operation and made some arrest, which fortunately led to the shocking arrests of those personalities we are talking about,” he said.

Asking him to comment on the rumour about some prominent Borno indigenes who are believed to be sponsors of Boko Haram, with particular attention on the rumour that 25 names of prominent people have been given to President Buhari for action, he said, the information has been going round for sometime now.

“Let’s not talk about rumours. I am just telling you about those people we arrested in the mop up operations and that is what I know,” He said

Travellers who plied the Maiduguri/Damaturu road have also confirmed the mop up operation. They told DAILY POST that they were held on that road for eight hours until the mop up operation ended.

Suicide Bomber Kills Self, Police Officers At A Police Checkpoint In Damaturu

A suspected Boko Haram suicide bomber has killed himself and a police officer at a checkpoint ‎at the outskirts of Damaturu, Yobe State capital, witnesses said. 

The checkpoint is located along the Kano-Maiduguri highway. 

Sources in Damaturu said the explosion occurred at about ‎1:30pm when police officers at the said checkpoint stopped a suspicious Toyota Highlander heading for Maiduguri. 

“As the policemen asked the passengers of the Highlander to disembark from the vehicle and file through the checkpoint one after the other, one of the passengers who had explosives hidden under his clothing, detonated the bomb, killing himself and a policeman”, Bukar Ali, an eyewitness said.

The source said other policemen and the passengers were seriously injured.  

Police is yet to confirm the attack.

Update: Damaturu Sallah Day Tragedy - Army Confirms 50 Killed By Female Suicide Bombers


 About 50 people have been confirmed dead in the twin explosions that rocked Damaturu, the Yobe State capital on Friday morning, the Nigerian Army has announced.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday in Abuja by the Acting-Director of Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed that the explosions occurred at screening areas of the Eid prayer ground.

Usman said many other persons were injured in the explosions suspected to have been masterminded by some insurgents.

“This is to confirm that there were two suicide bomb explosions today at about 7:40 a.m. in Damaturu, Yobe, in which two female suicide bombers — one elderly woman and a ten year-old girl –detonated the devices.

“It occurred at screening areas for intending Muslim worshippers at Layin Gwange, Damaturu and at Phase1, in front of former state secretariat, Damaturu,’’ he said.

According to him, 43 persons died in the first explosion while seven people died in the second explosion.

He however assured that the relevant authorities had brought the situation under control, adding that no amount of terrorist act would deter the Nigerian Army’s resolve to stamp out terrorism and insurgency.

He said both Gov. Ibrahim Geidam of Yobe and the Chief of Army Staff, Maj.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, had called on the residents of the area to stay calm and be security conscious.
