Security Beefed Up At Akanu Ibiam Int’l Airport, Enugu, SE Nigeria

Security arrangements have been beefed up at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu as many indigenes return home to celebrate Christmas and New Year.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the airport is the only international airport in the South East. A correspondent of NAN, who visited the airport on Friday, observed that security personnel were in large numbers at the various sections of the airport. Passengers coming or leaving the airport were made to go through electronic screening, while visitors waiting for friends and relations were kept away from the waiting section Speaking on condition of anonymity, a private security man at the airport, said that the new security arrangement started from the first day of December.

“As you can see, the seats at the arrival lounge’s waiting section have been removed. “Once, you escort someone to this airport, you have to stop at this departure lounge, where I am standing, and bid your friend or family members goodbye as you will not be allowed to stay inside.

“For those waiting for an arriving passenger or for any reason you have to wait; you must wait outside or go under those trees for now. “These are the latest security instructions for now. It is not meant to insult anybody, but done for security purpose,’’ he said.
