The Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Suleiman Abba, has ordered an audit of the weaponry of the force throughout the country.
Force Public Relations Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Ojukwu, who stated this in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday, said the action was aimed at accounting for the weapons the police have in the nation.
Ojukwu, an acting commissioner of police said, "As part of measures to strengthen accountability of the stock of weaponry of the Nigeria Police Force, the Inspector-General of Police, Ag. IGP Suleiman Abba, has ordered a thorough check and audit of Police armouries nationwide.
"The exercise, which has already commenced, will cover all Police Commands, Formations, Stations and Units across the country.
"This measure will also enable the Force to review the current state of arms and ammunition in stock at various Police armouries."
