NSCDC Commandant Proffer Solutions To Rising Kidnapping Incidents in Nigeria

The new commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Mr. Tajudeen Ayobami Balogun, has listed ways to stem the tide of rising incidents of Kidnapping in Nigeria. Mr. Balogun gave these tips during a courtesy visit to The Guardian newspaper recently. He urged Nigerians to be vigilant.

Balogun also gave useful tips on how to relate with strangers, as they are avenues to fall victim to criminals.
The NSCDC boss noted that housekeepers, domestic helps should be given rigorous background checks before being employed in the homes as various kidnap cases have been traced to information provided by domestic assistants to the kidnappers.

According to him, “Gone are those days that you think you can pick anyone to be your house help or gardener because if the bad people outside find them vulnerable, they sell you out.

“Secondly, you must make sure you walk your talk. Don’t pay evil with evil. When you have a business deal with someone try to be honest and straightforward. Some individuals may not follow the rule of law by going to security agencies to report a business deal gone awry. A few might decide to take the laws into their hands,” he said.

Balogun counseled against the habit of picking ladies at nightclubs, who could have links to criminals and give their target away.

Owing to increased rate of cultism within the neighbourhoods, he advised parents to know what their children are up to, as well as ask relevant questions when their suspicion is aroused.

He said criminals are no spirits. He said they are at the beer parlours, drinking and throwing money around. Motorcyclists are their accomplices; even the recharge card sellers give them intelligence.

“We want the local vigilante, traditional rulers to join hands with the security agencies to stop the rising cases of abduction. Security challenge is a global issue and we have to work round the clock,” he added.

Balogun appraised The Guardian over its adherence to its motto of “conscience nurtured by truth” and its commitment to educating and enlightening the general public.
