Gunmen kidnap Argentine Expatriate in Niger State, Central Nigeria

The Niger State Police Command on Thursday said an Argentine has been abducted by some unknown gunmen in the State.

According to the Commissioner of Police, Olusola Amore, the Argentine identified as Santiago Lopez Menendez was abducted at Machagu town while travelling from Mokwa to Kontagora.

Amore said, “We normally provide protection for all foreigners working on farms and elsewhere in the state.”
“But he, Menendez, chose to travel alone on the bad road without police protection and they kidnapped him.”

Menendez who is an agronomist, works for the Nigerian Flour Mills Plc, managing two farms in the Sunti and Kabbugi districts of the State.

It was gathered that 10 patrol vans and a special anti-kidnapping team have been deployed by the Command so as to set him free.

Commenting on the abduction, the State police spokesperson, Bala Elkana affirmed that bad road was responsible for the kidnapping, adding that there have been previous kidnapping incident on the same road.
