Reports reaching DAILY POST say hundreds of suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Kasheri town in Gombe State, Northeast Nigeria, killing unspecified number of persons and burning down scores of houses before leaving unchallenged.

DAILY POST gathered that the attack on Thursday, came barely 24 hours after another sect group were reported to have attacked a police outpost on the outskirts of Gombe, killing a Corporal while three suspected Boko Haram members also lost their lives in the encounter.

According to residents of Gombe, the attack at Kasheri has forced a lot of residents to flee their homes into the capital for safety.

Speaking to DAILY POST, a resident of Gombe, Alhaji Yusuf Jinjiri said a lot of Boko Haram suspects who fled Borno state because of the heat the military has turned on them have relocated to Gombe and Bauchi axis where they are now terrorizing innocent citizens.

According to him, they were also surprised with stories being accredited to newly elected President, General Muhammadu Buhari that there is no time frame to oust the insurgents contrary to his campaign promises that he would root out Boko Haram in two week.

“Our people are suffering, they are fleeing to Gombe and you people in the newspapers are compounding problems with reports we are hearing that there is no time frame to root out Boko Haram. If Buhari said that, I will regret voting him. I hope it is just a newspaper that is saying this and not General Buhari. We want these bad elements to become history”, he said.
