2 Police Detectives Kidnapped in Port Harcourt, Abductors Demand N30m

Abductors of two police detectives with the Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abuja, have demanded N30m ransom.

The two officers, Sgt. Haladu Mohammed and an unidentified colleague. were reportedly kidnapped on Wednesday last week on Port Harcourt while on an official duty in Rivers State.

Investigation by Northern City News revealed that the two cops were reportedly abducted from their hotel rooms in the garden city.

However, the police high command had yet to make any statement, as they claimed they were still probing the incident.

But Mohammed’s father, Alhaji Umar Arikya, confirmed the abduction of his son, noting that it was not unexpected in view of the nature of his job as a detective.

Arikya, a retired Superintendent of Police, however called on the police authorities to do everything to rescue Mohammed and his colleague.

A source close to the family said the kidnappers had contacted Mohammed’s brother who is also a policeman  and demanded N30m ransom.

“The kidnappers allowed Mohammed to speak with his brother on the phone after which they demanded N30m for his release,” the source explained.

Meanwhile, the Eggon Cultural and Development Association, has solicited prayers from its members for the release of the abducted police detectives.

The group in a statement in Lafia on Thursday by its Public Relations Officer, Mr. Enoch Maku, further appealed to security operatives not to relent in making sure that the perpetrators were brought to book.

The Deputy Force Public Relations, Aremu Adeniran, said he was not aware of the incident.
