Gunmen Kidnap Legal Practitioner, Kidnapped School Principal Rescued in Delta State

A renowned legal practitioner and one-time president of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA), lsoko chapter, Chief Kennedy Uwubiti, was on Wednesday abducted by unknown gunmen along Oleh/Ozoro Road in Isoko South Local Council of Delta State.

The legal practitioner, who resides in lrri community, but has his chambers in Oleh, was driving home in his Honda SUV around 9:30p.m. when he was apprehended and taken hostage by suspected kidnappers.

Though information was still scanty about the abduction as at press time, but a source told The Guardian the abductors are demanding N10 million ransom. Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, Mr. Andrew Aniamaka, confirmed the incident and said it was initially reported as an armed robbery case at the Ozoro Divisional Police headquarters, before it was discovered that an incident of kidnapping was also recorded.  According to him, men of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit of the command were on top of the matter.

In a related development, Nigerian Army troops attached to the 222 Battalion has rescued the principal of Owhe Grammar School, Dr. (Mrs.) Felicia Ovoh, from four armed men suspected to be kidnappers at Ovrode, Isoko North Local Council of Delta State.

The victim was with her children and grandson on their way school, when the armed men waylaid her at a bad spot along the road.According to a source: “The woman, her children and grandson were held hostage at the bad spot on the road and after confirmation that she was the target, her children were dropped from her vehicle while she was driven away.

The rescue team led by Capt. GM Ado, told newsmen that at 07:15a.m. on Wednesday, he got a call about the incident and a quick response team chased the kidnappers to Ovrode swamp forest before she was rescued.

“The hoodlums were shooting sporadically to scare them away but they were not deterred until she was rescued,” he said, adding that: “Our vehicle was destroyed by the kidnappers but the woman and her vehicle with community money that was with her to the tune of N774,000 were all recovered and handed over to the police at Ozoro division.”
