Gunmen Kidnap Medical Doctor in Lagos, SW Nigeria

Panic ensued at the popular Saint Francis Hospital in Lagos late on Friday as gunmen kidnapped a doctor at the hospital.
It was gathered that the gunmen had reportedly stormed the hospital, situated around Keffi area of Ikoyi to abduct a foreign doctor.

The abducted doctor was simply identified as Yussuf Ajayi, who was said to be one of the medical personnel on duty.

A police source, who confirmed the abduction to the Sunday Tribune under the condition of anonymity, said no foreign doctor was abducted.

The police source said “there was really an abduction at the hospital late on Friday but I want to strongly disagree with you that a foreign doctor was abducted.”

He added that “five of them actually came and their mission was to abduct a foreign doctor. But when they could not, they resorted to kidnapping a Nigerian doctor.”

The police source also told the Sunday Tribune that the abductors were as of Saturday evening yet to contact the hospital for ransom negotiation.

The police in the state   quickly mobilised operatives of the Rapid Response Squad and the Special Anti-Robbery Squad to the scene, but the gunmen had escaped with the doctor.

Efforts to get the reaction of the image-maker in charge of the state police command, Dolapo Badmos, failed as calls to her mobile phone lines were not answered.
