Police Boss Warns Nigeria Police Officers Against Traffic Duties, Illegal Road Blocks

The Assistant Inspector General (AIG), of police in charge of Zone 11, Dan Bature has warned police officers to desist from checking vehicle particulars and mounting of illegal road blocks on major roads in the country.

Bature who stated this during his two day familiarisation visit to Oyo State, noted that police officers are expected to protect the lives of the citizens of the country.

“We shall not condone unnecessary road blocks again, this is why the federal government bought us so many vehicles for our operations. If you are on the road as a police officer you are expected to ensure the safety of everyone and should not be found harassing them or performing traffic duties.

“If there is need for vehicle particulars to be checked by policemen, the Commissioner of Police will issue a public notice to all asundry. Any police officer caught checking papers on the road is performing an illegal duty.” He said

According to him, the Inspector General will soon launch a Special Escort to tackle corruption at all levels of government.

He said the special escort can only be achieved when the public can establish trust in the police force.
“The IG has promise to supply necessary working tools for the escort on corruption to work. We should support the mantra of change of the federal government and join them in fighting corruption. All officers should desist from damaging the image of the police force.” the police boss said.

Earlier in his remarks, the Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Sunday Adegbuyi disclose that the command will soon create two or more area commands in the state in other to ensure effective policing.

Adegbuyi said:” We have so many challenges but we have been able to manage crimes in this state in partnership with the state government and residence.
