Police Rescue Indian National Kidnapped In Lagos, Sout-West, Nigeria

The Nigeria Police, Lagos state command has foiled a kidnap attempt and rescued an Indian national from suspected kidnappers in Ikorodu area of Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Fatai Owoseni, confirmed this on Thursday to newsmen at his weekly news briefing.

Owoseni said the Indian was working at a construction site when the incident happened.
According to him, the suspected kidnappers were leading him (victim) to their boat in the creeks when they engaged a team of policemen in a gun battle.

“Our men were able to rescue the Indian national before the kidnappers could take him into the creeks. The suspects, however, escaped in their boat,” he said.

Owoseni, however, said five robbery and one kidnap suspects were arrested in the last one week in different parts of the state.

He said four guns, five cars and other items were recovered from them.
Meanwhile, the commissioner had appealed to the residents of the state to be alert and report any strange movements to the police station nearest to them.

He said they could also report such other security agencies following threats of possible attacks by suspected militants.

Owoseni recalled that some militants attacked Monkey Village, behind Iba Housing Estate in Lagos last Wednesday.

“Some policemen engaged them in a gun duel; unfortunately, we lost one of our men.
The command has deployed more men, including the military, to beef-up security in all link areas.
“We solicit the support of the public for more information,” he said.

The commissioner also expressed worries over clashes recorded in the state in the last one week, urging the people to eschew violence.

Owoseni, however, said that the clash between the Hausa and Fulani ethnic groups at the Agege Abattoir, and between Ibos and Hausas at Ketu had been brought under control.
He said that more police and military had been drafted to keep watch at both areas.
