Kidnappers Collected N1.5m Ransom Yet Killed Catholic Priest in Nigeria - Police

The Nigeria Police authorities yesterday disclosed that abductors of Rev. Fr. John Adeyi of the Catholic Diocese of Oturkpo killed him a day before they collected a N1.5 million ransom.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Don Awunah, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), made the disclosure during the parade of four suspects at the Force Headquarters. This was as the deputy leader of the gang, Saidu Abdullahi, who confessed to firing the fatal shot, said that he was “destined to kill the priest”.

Apart from Abdullahi, other members of the killer-gang paraded, were Suleiman Gina (gang leader), Aliyu Garba, and Haruna Idi. Adeyi, who was the parish priest of St. Bernard’s Parish, Okpoga, was killed on April 24.

His decomposing body was found about two months after his murder. According to the FPRO, the suspects were arrested by the Intelligence Response Team attached to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) monitoring unit, between September 1 and 14.
