UNIPORT Student Protest Turns Bloody As Police Allegedly Kills Student Leader

Report from newsroom.ng have it that a student of the University of Port Harcourt has been shot dead amidst the ongoing protest over a change in the university’s fee policies.

The victim has been identified as Peter Ofurum, the President of the Faculty of Management Sciences students’ Association.

The students allege that police officers brought in to maintain law and order, fired gunshots which hit the deceased, killing him.

Angry students have reportedly been destroying school properties and properties of resident lecturers in protest of his death.

Earlier reports by the police had denied the death of any student or any shooting at students, but the protesting students have confirmed otherwise to Nigeria Info.
The school authorities are yet to comment on this development, as an indefinite shut down of the school is expected to be announced following an emergency meeting of the school senate.
