Terror Threat! ISIS 'Planning "Spectacular" Attack in UK' Warns Britain’s Head of Counter Terrorism

A senior police officer in Britain and national policing lead for counter terrorism has warned that ISIS may be planning a "spectacular" terrorist attack in the UK - and is trying to get battle-hardened jihadis into Europe.

Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley said the bloodthirsty terror group wants to sow fear by committing massacres on the 'Western lifestyle'.

He said: "In recent months we've seen a broadening of that, much more plans to attack Western lifestyle, and obviously the Paris attacks in November.

"Going from that narrow focus on police and military as symbols of the state to something much broader. And you see a terrorist group which has big ambitions for enormous and spectacular attacks, not just the types that we've seen foiled to date.

He added: "You see a terrorist group that whilst on the one hand has been acting as a cult to use propaganda to radicalise people to act in their name... you also see them trying to build bigger attacks."

Mr Rowley, who is the national policing lead for counter-terrorism, said that IS is trying to get supporters who have received military training in Syria into northern Europe to stage attacks.

He says the ISIS wants to replicate horrific attacks like the series of shootings and suicide bombings in Paris and the downing of a Russian passenger jet.

He also spoke of his concern about the growing number of children and families involved in terror arrests - of the 339 terror arrests in England and Wales last year, around 14 per cent were female and 13 per cent were 20 and under.
Nearly four out of five were UK nationals.

The last major terror attack on UK soil was the 7/7 terror attacks in 2005, when 700 people were injured and 56, including four terrorists, died in a series of bomb attacks on public transport.
It was the deadliest single act of terrorism in the UK since the Lockerbie bombing, and the deadliest bombing in London since World War Two.

Tensions around Europe are high after the Paris terror attacks.
At least 129 people died after a series of violent incidents around the French capital on Friday 13 November 2015.

Gunmen and bombers attacked restaurants, the Bataclan theatre where US rock band Eagles Of Death Metal were playing, and the Stade de France national stadium.
It came 10 months after the attack on Charlie Hebdo magazine, which left 12 dead, and the siege at a Jewish supermarket which claimed four victims.

And in October ISIS claimed to have placed on a bomb on a Russian passenger plane flying from Sharm-El-Sheikh to St Petersburg, killing all 220 people on board.

In February a man pleaded guilty to plotting to kill soldiers, police and civilians in London in ISIS-inspired terror attacks.

Tarik Hassane, 22, planned to carry out drive-by shootings on mopeds in the capital.
He dramatically changed his plea and admitted conspiracy to murder and preparation of terrorist acts as the defence was about to start in the Old Bailey trial.

The charges state that he conspired with co-defendants and others to murder "a person or persons unknown" between July 8 and September 25 2014.

And between July 8 2014 and October 7 2014, they researched, planned and sourced a weapon and ammunition with a "view to committing an attack or attacks on a person or persons within the United Kingdom".
