IGP Prohibits Police Officers From Illegally Accessing Mobile Phones of Citizens

Nigeria's Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Solomon Arase issued a circular today, January 4, 2016, directing officers and men of the Nigeria Police to forthwith desist from accessing people’s mobile telephones illegally.

This was contained in a tweet by Abayomi Shogunle, Officer in Charge of Complaint Response Unit of the Nigeria Police Force. The IGP urged police officers to protect and respect the right of private citizens and families.

Members of the public are urged to contact the Nigeria Police Complaint Unit via any of the under listed platforms to report acts of malfeasance including: illegal accessing of their mobile devices, illegal arrest and detention, bribery, abuse of authority, demand for sexual favours in exchange for leniency, corruption, extortion, brutality, torture, extra-judicial killing, harassment amongst others.
