Boko Haram Militants reportedly attacked Buni Yadi, Yobe State, on Thursday night, a military source told Reuters. The source could not exactly confirm military response to the attack.
Information on casualties in the attack that reportedly started around 9pm (2000 GMT) could not also be ascertained as at the time this report was filed.
A Reuters correspondent however claimed he saw a detachment of troops with armoured personnel carriers and a fighter jet heading towards Buni Yadi on Friday morning.
DAILY POST reports that Boko Haram insurgents have recently stepped up their attacks and analysts believe that the attacks were targeted at Muslim faithfuls who are currently observing the Ramadan fast.
Suicide bombers sponsored by the insurgents have since the past few days capitalized on the withdrawal of military from checkpoints on major roads across the country, and have dealt heavy blow to both Christians and Muslims in the North East
