Thirteen persons were killed in one of the Wednesday night attacks
on Maiduguri by the Boko Haram sect, a member of the youth vigilance
group told our correspondent in Maiduguri on Thursday.
The source, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the 13
persons were killed near a military barrack, Giwa Barrack in Maiduguri
on Wednesday evening when four women, who pretended to have escaped from
the attack, detonated explosives devices on them.
According to him, the four women were seen by soldiers and some members of the youth vigilance group near the Army barrack.
He explained as the women approached a checkpoint near the barrack, soldiers and the youth vigilantes attempted to assist them.
He said the female suicide bombers detonated the bomb on them,
killing three soldiers and six members of the youth vigilance group.
The source lamented that several persons were equally injured by the massive explosions.
He said, “Our members were killed and some in hospital as a result
of the bombs detonated by these useless wives of Boko Haram that came to
attack us yesterday(Wednesday).
“Our men and the soldiers thought they were helpless women that
were in Boko Haram’s captivity but they took us by surprise and killed
six of our active members.”
”We will not allow this to demoralise us though; we will not relent
until we crush them all. This cannot just stop us from fighting them.”
