Terrorism: NIS Border Patrol Aircraft Still Grounded

•Bars over 19,000 foreigners entry
•As 40 immigration officers killed by terrorists

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) border patrol aircraft, which could have been very useful in the ongoing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency efforts in the North Eastern part of the country are said to be grounded due to poor funding and lack of maintenance.

This was stated on Wednesday by the NIS Public Relations Officer (PRO), Chukwuemeka Obuah, at the Media Parley of the Forum of Spokespersons of Security and Response Agencies (FOSSRA) hosted I-Nigerian Initiative in Abuja.

Obuah said that despite the fact that NIS needed more sophisticated patrol aircraft and communication equipment, the few aircraft, which could have been used for effective border policing and monitoring of the movement of foreigners in and out of the country had been left to rot because of poor funding.
