Jailbreak: 10 Inmates Killed At KirikiriMaximum Prison

About 10 inmates were alleged to have been shot dead when they attempted to escape from the Kirikiri Maximum Prison, Kirikiri Town, in Apapa area of Lagos State, yesterday.

A warder attached to the prison who spoke on the condition of anonymity alleged that some inmates there plotted the jail break to pave the way for their escape but unfortunately, about 10 of them were shot.

The warder said the inmates protested for several hours on their conditions in the cell, calling the warders unprintable names.

The source said none of them escaped from the prison as the officials of the Nigeria Prisons Service tried to manage the crisis.

Policemen from Area ‘B’ Police command, Apapa, led by the area commander, ACP Ndubueze Innocent Anene, led teams of policemen from the area command and the eight police station under him to the scene. They were able to control the situation.

A police corporal attached to Kirikiri police station who pleaded anonymity said they were there to assist the
warders. He said the warders shot at the escaping inmates, adding that about 15 of them received bullet wounds.
