Abuja:
A blast at a Bus Station in Nyanya, an outskirt of the Nigerian capital Abuja during a Monday morning rush hour killed at least 71 people and 140 injured.
A Reuters cameraman saw 20 bodies at the depot at Nyanyan bridge, around 8 km (5 miles) south of Abuja, and two witnesses said another 15 had already been removed by the emergency services.
"I was waiting to get on a bus when I heard a deafening explosion then smoke. People were running around in panic," said Mimi Daniels, who works in Abuja. Another blast followed, she said.
There was no immediate claim of responsibility but suspicion is likely to fall on Islamist militant group Boko Haram. The Islamists have been waging an increasingly bloody insurgency in the northeast.
Suspected Islamist militants killed at least 60 people in an attack on a village in northeast Nigeria late last week. Eight people were killed in a separate attack at a teacher training college, witnesses said.

Only a powerful IED will wreak such a havoc. It appears the bomb was hidden inside a Volkswagen Golf Car that was driven into the bus station. It will help if the Security Agencies can establish if the mastermind also died in the attack. You see why we advocate for the installation of CCTV Cameras across Nigeria.

There is reasonable cause to believe that the Abuja (Nyanya) bomb blast may have been a diversion, a 'message' from the mastermind's that the length of Nigeria is their 'catchment area'. Prior to now, this bloodletting has been somewhat localized in the North East. They put up a fight when a 'State of Emergency' was declared in the hotbeds of their campaign. Now they seem to be exporting their stock in trade to other parts of the country.
It is high time we strengthened our intelligence gathering mechanism and network. It is an intelligence failure for an attack of such magnitude to have been planned and deployed without the Security/Intelligence Agencies been privy to it. This lends credence to why we advocate for the deployment of state-of-the-art gadgets such as CCTV Cameras. Such a camera would have captured forensic evidence as to what actually happened.
All hands must be on deck! Don't be nonchalant about the unprecedented insecurity situation in Nigeria because you think it's localized in the North. At the risk of been dubbed a pessimistic or a prophet of doom, my prognosis is that the masterminds of terrorism and insurgency in Nigeria are yet to play their trump card.
